IMF Forums: A Different Learning & Sharing Experience

This year’s IMF Forum on IT Innovation takes place next Thursday and Friday (June 7th/8th) in Atlanta at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center. Forums are great way to network and speak with your peers on a variety of engaging issues in an open, vendor-free environment. We feel these events are very valuable for our members. Hans Eckman, a Vice President and Enterprise Business Analyst at SunTrust Bank, attended last year’s Forum on IT Innovation. He gave an excellent presentation to the group on their Innovations Team Engagement Model which led to great discussion and insight. Here is what Hans had to say about his IMF experience:

When trying to solve pressing business and technology changes, there are many places leaders turn to.  Books, articles and professional conferences provide great information and best practices we can apply.  Unfortunately, most of that knowledge comes in only one direction.  This is where The IMF and their conferences have created a different learning and sharing experience.

When I first attended and presented at an IMF conference, I was expecting great speakers, interesting topics and the chance to ask general questions as I tried to apply their experiences.  What I found was a highly engaged and interactive group of diverse leaders.  Each session provided open access not only to the speaker, but between all attendees in the session.  These thought leaders openly shared their challenges and successes, creating a much more enriching experience than I was expecting.  The IMF attracts a very diverse audience at all their events, from government and non-profit, to mid-size businesses and large corporations.  Each participant brings both a shared background, but also a unique perspective of how the topics apply to their industry.

What also set the IMF events apart from other conferences I have attended are the people.  The IMF team does an excellent job hosting and facilitating these events.  The attendees I’ve met have been friendly and thrive on free exchange of information.  How often have you attended an event and thought, wow, I think I would be happy working with almost any of these teams?!  If you get the chance to attend an event, I highly encourage it and hope you get as much out of them as I have.

We thank Hans for his kind words and can’t wait to see him back here this year. If you would like to attend this year’s Forum on IT Innovation there is still time to register for the event. Simply visit the meeting page and click the “Register” button on the top right. We hope to see you at an IMF event soon!
