Rural Outsourcing v. Rural Onshore Sourcing

December 1st, 2009

In an article featured on CIO.com by Patrick Thibodeau from Computer, Thibodeau discusses rural outsourcing as a niche market. Using Atlanta-based Xpanxion, LLC a former offshore software development company, Thibodeau illustrates how opening a facility in Nebraska allowed Xpanxion to reduce customer costs and provide direct customer support. According to Anand Ramesh, research director at Ever Group in Dallas quoted in the article, “rural outsourcing will remain a small portion of the overall offshore market…and for work that requires understanding of the cultural context or knowledge of a specific product that may not be widely available overseas.” Another example that Thibodeau provides includes the Perot Systems Corp. who also has operations in Nebraska as a part of their low cost strategy.
